Did you know?
The main avenue of Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area, Duke of Gloucester St., is affectionately called “DoG Street” by locals!
The historic road that leads our guests through the Historic Area is a wonderful spot for a leisurely stroll or a brisk jog with your canine companion. And with four pet-friendly hotels to choose from, you’ll have plenty of options for exploring this charming city together.

Canine Connections to Williamsburg
Believe it or not, Williamsburg has a special place in the heart of one famous canine! Lassie, the beloved television star, visited our historic town in 1966 to film part of the “Lassie the Voyager” series. It’s just one example of the rich history shared by humans and their canine companions.
Even our country’s first president, George Washington, was a dog lover! So, it’s no surprise that Colonial Williamsburg Resorts has rolled out the welcome mat for your furry friends.
Queen Elizabeth II, a two-time guest of the Williamsburg Inn was known for her unrelenting love for Corgis. She owned at least 30 of this breed throughout the course of her reign.
Dining and Exploring with Your Pup
After a day of exploring the Historic Area, treat yourself (and your pup) to a delicious meal on the patio at one of these local favorites:
- Sweet Tea & Barley at The Williamsburg Lodge
- DoG Street Pub in Merchants Square
- The Hound’s Tale in Merchants Square
So, pack your bags and bring your best friend along for your next Williamsburg adventure! We can’t wait to welcome you and your furry companion to our historic town.
